Do You have What It Takes To Ride A
Racehorse.
A National Lottery Awards for All funded project that targeted young people aged between 14 and 24 years that had disengaged from education and / employment due to the impact of the Covid Pandemic. Completing an equine enabled Building Confidence Programme this team of youths prepared a group of four end of career racehorses for a charity race over a six month period.
Learning about resilience and making better life choices this team of young people were responsible for the following – meeting the daily welfare and training needs of the horses, training to be a jockey, maintaining the facilities and grazing of the Centre, and organizing and delivering the Race Day.
All of those involved gained accreditation for the new skills and knowledge they had acquired and engaged in meaningful work experience that allowed them to build a CV with confidence to return to further training or move closer to the job market.
Positive Steps
An Adult Well-being initiative for those affected by mental health. Volunteer programme focused around soft landscaping projects and community engagement event preparation.
The Positive Steps project was started in 2022 with a small CVEO grant to create a community space with Fossilfield for those that wanted to enjoy the benefits offered by our natural rural space, Our volunteers have now formed the Friend of Fossilfield constituted group who support the Centre with it’s charitable aims.
Rats Bats & Cats Breakfast & Supper Clubs
Our school holiday hunger initiative supported by our local supermarkets including Tesco’s Stronger Starts.
Offering outdoor based school holiday activities including animal assisted and nature based. Every child received either a hearty breakfast or a nutritional supper.
Families benefiting from this included those experiencing low income, care experienced, neuro-diverse, alcohol and drug misuse, ethic minority, trauma experienced and physical / mental disability.
